Chapter VIII
Tom decides on his course • old scenes re-enacted
SummaryAfter storming away from school and Becky, Tom wondered around the forest deep in thought about his career. He decided that he was going to be a pirate and everybody will fear and respect him. Next, he tried a futile charm to locate his all of his lost marbles, evidently blaming his failure on witchcraft. Finally, he encountered Joe Harper and played Robin Hood for a while, before going home. As they were walking home they came to a conclusion that, “They would rather be outlaws a year in Sherwood Forest than President of the United States forever.”

Who We Are |
This chapter plays strongly on Tom's imagination and boyhood adding character development for the readers. These traits define Tom as each trait (maturity and intellect) has many ups and down throughout the book. Lastly, the superstitions of Tom come up again in chapter seven, which is important because superstition will show an effect on decisions of Tom's, later in the book.
