Chapter XXV
About king and diamonds • search for the treasure • dead people and ghosts
SummaryTom finds a new inspiration to go treasure hunting, and Huck says he would go with him. They then discuss where to hunt, about what they will find, and about Kings, who have many diamonds. They decide to dig around a dead elm tree about three miles away. After they get there, they proceed to talk about what they are going to do with their share. Huck says he will spend it on pie and soda, but Tom says he is going to get married with the money, whereas Huck disagrees. They then give up after an hour of digging and move to another tree on the widow’s property. After not finding anything there, Tom remembers that the shadow of the tree at midnight will point to the spot of the treasure. They two boys come back at midnight, but still don’t find anything because they can’t know exactly when midnight is. Therefore, they decide that they will come to the haunted house during the next day to look for treasure.
