Springing a secret • mr. Jones' surprise a failure
SummaryWhile upstairs, Huck is starting to freak out about the attention he was going to get but Tom talked him into staying. Then, Sid came up and noticed the clay and grease on them, but Tom threated Sid to be quiet, and he was then forced to leave as Tom kicked him out the door. Downstairs, the widow thanked the Welshman and his sons for their duty in saving her. She also showered Huck with compliments, after learning of what he had done for her. Finally, she said she would house and pay for Huck, but Tom showed them the money, telling everyone that they were rich. The sum ended up to be over $1200, causing everyone to go into shock and disbelief.

With a new found sense of society, Huck is starting to revolt back to his old self, and the money is flying them head first into responsibility and adulthood.
