Chapter VII
a treaty entered into • early lessons • a mistake made
SummaryThe teacher now sits Tom next to Joe Harper. After trying to focus on studies for some time, Tom gives up and pulls out his tick for him and Joe to play with. They end up getting into a small argument over the tick and cause a commotion, leading to a whack for both of them.
During lunch break, Tom and Becky sit in the empty school together, and Tom ends up convincing her to get engaged to him. While sharing his excitement with her, he accidentally reveals his other engagement to Amy. This greatly upsets Becky, and Tom gives her a brass door knob to convince her of his love. She rejects it and Tom storms out, causing Becky to realize the mistake she has made. She races out, only to find no Tom and is depressed for the rest of the day. |
