Chapter XXVII
Doubts to be settled • the young detections
SummaryWhen Tom wakes up the next morning, he convinces himself that yesterday’s experiences were just a dream because one person cannot possible have that much money. He then seeks out Huck and realizes that the mining trip actually happened. The two boys brainstorm what Number Two could be and Tom comes up with the idea that it could be a room number in a tavern, so he goes and checks both the taverns in town. At the second tavern he learns that the guest staying in room number two, keeps it locked all the time and only goes in and out at night. Tom tells Huck about this and they decide to try any key they can find on the back door of room number two. They also agree, with some restraint from Huck, to follow Injun Joe if they spot him.
