Chapter XI
Muff potter comes himself • Tom's conscience at work
SummaryBy the next day, the entire town knows about Dr. D’s murder, and school is off for the day as everyone crowds the cemetery. It was then that Potter shows up and tells Injun Joe to tell the truth. Injun Joe precedes to tell the lie he created, and Tom’s conscience wavers, causing him to sneak small comforts to the “murderer” in his cell. Tom starts speaking in his sleep and avoiding most everything to do with the murder. Sid realizes these things, but can’t quite piece it together, so he stays quiet.
